Composite Doors

Composite doors are now the preferred choice of double-glazed external doors for many homeowners and tradesmen due to the huge advantages that composite doors have over alternative doors like wood, steel and uPVC. The benefits of composite doors over standard doors are durability, strength, security, energy efficiency, weather resistance, low maintenance and life expectancy.

Composite doors are available In thousands of colour and style combinations, from the classic traditional Georgian and Victorian style to the ever-increasingly popular modern and contemporary doors The majority of external front doors we offer can be delivered and installed within 3-4 weeks.

A high-security locking system as standard

The composite doors are fitted as standard with a high-security multipoint hook lock, which has top credentials. The multi-point locking mechanism has been tested on PAS23 and PAS24. This lock can also accommodate Lever/Pad or Lever/Lever split spindle handle mechanisms when required. The cylinder has five pins and four anti-pick pins for added security. Then we’ve added a cylinder protector as standard. The guard helps to stop forced entry if the handle is removed.

Composite door colours

Composite doors are available in 13 standard external door colours; black, red, green, blue, white, oak, dark wood, chartwell green, cream, grey, duck egg blue, black brown and poppy red. RAL colours are available upon request. As standard, the internal door is white-grained. The solid colours are pre-pigmented which means the colour is added during the manufacturing process. As the skins are applied, the colour goes on evenly. The oak and dark wood finish is a hand-applied stained finish to give depth to the woodgrain. All composite doors have a high gloss, UV-resistant film to give them a final sheen.

uPVC Windows & Doors

Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride (uPVC) windows and doors are a popular choice due to their durability, energy efficiency, and low maintenance requirements. People frequently ask about their insulative properties – uPVC frames have excellent thermal insulation, which can significantly reduce heat loss in winter and prevent heat gain in summer, resulting in lower energy bills.

Another common question concerns their maintenance: uPVC windows and doors require minimal upkeep – they don’t need painting or sealing, and they’re resistant to corrosion and rot. Regarding cost, while the initial investment can be higher than some alternatives, the long lifespan and low maintenance costs of uPVC windows and doors often make them a cost-effective choice.

Lastly, questions about environmental impact often arise: uPVC is recyclable, and the energy savings provided by these windows and doors can also contribute to lower carbon emissions.

uPVC, or unplasticised PolyVinyl Chloride, windows are highly popular due to their low maintenance, high durability, and thermal efficiency. Unlike wooden window frames, uPVC doesn’t rot, warp, or require painting or sealing. This drastically reduces the amount of time and money spent on upkeep. In addition, uPVC windows often come with multi-locking systems, providing a high level of home security.

In terms of energy efficiency, uPVC windows have excellent performance. They have good insulating properties, meaning your home will be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. This could also lead to a reduction in energy bills. Furthermore, uPVC windows are known for their noise reduction properties, providing a quieter environment inside your home, especially if you live in a busy, high-traffic area.

Composite doors are made from a combination of materials, including PVC, wood, insulating foam, and GRP (glass reinforced plastic). This design approach aims to utilize the best characteristics of each material, thus overcoming the common flaws found in single-material doors. For instance, while wooden doors may warp over time and uPVC doors may lack in strength, composite doors offer high durability and dimensional stability.

Composite doors are highly energy efficient due to their insulating foam core, helping to keep your home warm and reducing energy costs. Aesthetically, they can be made to mimic the look of wooden doors, providing a traditional appearance with the benefits of modern materials. Lastly, like uPVC windows, composite doors often come with high security locking systems, enhancing the safety of your home.

Triple glazing involves using three panes of glass in your windows instead of the traditional one (single glazing) or two (double glazing). The space between these panes is filled with an inert gas, typically argon, to provide insulation. Triple glazing provides better thermal efficiency and noise reduction than double glazing, which can make a significant difference in colder climates or noisy areas.

Is triple glazing is worth the investment? This depends on your specific needs and circumstances. While it does provide superior insulation and noise reduction, it also costs more than double glazing. If you live in a climate where winters are harsh, or in a noisy area, the benefits of triple glazing could outweigh the initial investment. However, in milder climates or quieter areas, double glazing might suffice. Additionally, if your home is not well insulated in other areas, such as walls and roofs, upgrading those areas might be more cost-effective before investing in triple glazing.

uPVC windows offer several advantages over traditional wooden or aluminium windows. uPVC windows are highly durable and require minimal maintenance – they don’t need to be painted or sealed, and they’re resistant to corrosion, rot, and pest damage. This makes them a practical choice for homeowners looking for a long-lasting, low-care solution.

In terms of thermal efficiency, uPVC windows outperform wood and aluminium. They provide excellent insulation, helping to keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, potentially reducing energy costs. They’re also great for noise reduction, especially when combined with double or triple glazing. While wooden windows can offer good insulation, they require regular maintenance, and aluminium windows, although durable and low maintenance, are poor insulators.

uPVC windows and composite doors are renowned for their longevity. On average, uPVC windows can last between 20 to 25 years, although high-quality models maintained correctly can last even longer. They’re resistant to rot, corrosion, and UV damage, which contributes to their long lifespan.

Composite doors have an average lifespan of around 30 to 35 years. The combination of materials used in their construction, such as PVC, wood, insulating foam, and GRP, ensures that they’re extremely durable and resistant to weathering and physical damage. The longevity of both uPVC windows and composite doors makes them a cost-effective choice in the long run, despite the higher initial investment compared to some other options.

Yes, uPVC windows and composite doors offer a high degree of customization. For uPVC windows, you can choose from a wide range of styles, including casement, sash, tilt and turn, and more. They can also be made in virtually any size. While white is the most common colour, many manufacturers offer a variety of other colours and finishes, including wood grain effects.

Composite doors offer even greater customization options. They come in a wide range of styles and colours, with different types of glazing and design details. You can choose from modern or traditional styles, and add features such as letterboxes, knockers, and security viewers. This means you can tailor your uPVC windows and composite doors to perfectly match the style and character of your home.

The installation process for uPVC windows and composite doors involves a series of steps and should be done by a professional to ensure optimal performance. The process starts with measurements being taken to ensure the windows or doors will fit perfectly. The old windows or doors are then carefully removed to avoid any damage to the surrounding area.

The new uPVC window or composite door is then fitted into the space. It’s crucial that the window or door is level and correctly aligned, as this can affect its operation and efficiency. The window or door is then sealed to prevent drafts and water ingress. Once installed, the operation of the window or door should be checked to ensure everything works smoothly. Finally, any finishing touches such as trims are applied.

Maintenance of uPVC windows and composite doors is relatively straightforward due to their durable materials. They do not need to be painted or varnished like wooden windows or doors. Regular cleaning with a mild detergent and water is usually sufficient to keep them looking their best. Any stubborn stains can often be removed with a specialized uPVC cleaner.

Moving parts such as hinges and locks should be lightly lubricated once a year to keep them operating smoothly. It’s also a good idea to check the seals periodically to ensure they’re still providing a good level of insulation. If you notice any issues with the operation of your windows or doors, it’s best to get a professional to look.

Both uPVC windows and composite doors have characteristics that can be considered environmentally friendly. They both offer excellent insulation, which can reduce the amount of energy needed to heat or cool a home, thereby reducing carbon emissions.

Many manufacturers are now producing uPVC windows and doors using an eco-friendlier process, and a lot of them are recyclable. However, it’s important to note that the production of uPVC can involve the use of non-renewable resources, and not all regions have facilities to recycle uPVC. Composite doors, made from a mix of materials, can be more challenging to recycle. It’s always best to research and choose manufacturers who have clear environmental policies and recycling programs in place.

The cost of uPVC windows and composite doors can vary greatly depending on the size, style, and any custom features. On average, uPVC windows can range from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars per window, including installation. Composite doors are usually more expensive than uPVC doors due to their complex construction, with prices often starting in the mid-hundreds and going up to several thousand dollars.

It’s important to remember that while these options may have a higher upfront cost compared to alternatives, their durability and low maintenance can make them more cost-effective in the long run. Plus, their excellent thermal efficiency could lead to savings on your energy bills.

uPVC windows and composite doors are known for their robust security features. uPVC windows typically come with multi-point locking systems that lock at several points around the window frame, making them very difficult to force open. Some windows also include reinforced frames and laminated or toughened glass for additional security.

Composite doors are similarly secure, with solid construction and multi-point locking systems as standard. The materials used in composite doors are durable and resilient, providing strong resistance against forced entry. Additionally, many composite doors are designed to look like wood but are much tougher, adding an extra level of security.

Yes, installing uPVC windows and composite doors can potentially increase your home’s value. They are modern, durable, and energy-efficient, all of which are attractive features to potential buyers. These improvements not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home but also indicate to buyers that the home has been well-maintained.

The improved insulation provided by these installations can make your home more energy-efficient, which is an increasingly important factor for homebuyers. Energy efficiency not only reduces energy bills but can also contribute to a more comfortable living environment, which can certainly add to the appeal of your home on the market.

The main difference between double and triple glazing in uPVC windows lies in the number of glass panes and the level of insulation. Double glazing consists of two panes of glass with a layer of inert gas like argon between them, while triple glazing has three panes of glass and two layers of gas.

This additional pane in triple glazing improves the window’s insulating properties, keeping your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. It also provides better noise reduction, making it a great option for homes in busy or noisy areas. However, triple-glazed windows are more expensive and heavier than double-glazed windows, so it’s important to consider these factors when making your decision.

Yes, minor damage to uPVC windows and composite doors can often be repaired. For example, scratches or small dents on uPVC frames or composite doors can sometimes be filled in and repaired. Likewise, faulty locks, handles, or hinges can usually be replaced without needing to replace the entire window or door.

However, major damage, such as a large crack in the glass or a warped frame, may require a full replacement. It’s always best to consult with a professional if your uPVC windows or composite doors are damaged to determine the best course of action.
